Terms and limits
What this does, and what it cannot.
NoStep computes measurements from sensors rather than writing down numbers somebody read off a tape. That is the whole point of it, and it is also the reason these limits are worth reading before you rely on anything it produces.
01What NoStep is
NoStep is documentation software. It organises one home assessment into a Family Plan, a Contractor Bid Packet, and a Funding Documentation Packet, and it drafts the wording of those documents.
The reviewing professional reads, corrects, and signs. NoStep does not practise occupational therapy, does not make clinical decisions, and does not replace professional judgment.
02How accurate the measurements are
The room scanner works out distances from the tilt of your phone and the height you are holding it at. It is not a laser rangefinder and it does not use LiDAR. Every value it produces is an estimate and is labelled one throughout the app and in every document.
Accuracy depends on things NoStep cannot check: how accurately you entered or calibrated the camera height, how precisely you aimed at the point you meant, how steadily you held the phone, how far away the target was, and how well your particular device reports its orientation. The app shows a live tolerance while measuring, and a trace can be closed against its own starting corner so the error is measured rather than assumed.
NoStep publishes no fixed accuracy figure, because a figure that has not been measured under stated conditions on your device would be a claim we cannot support.
Field-verify with a tape measure before ordering materials, cutting anything, or committing to a bid. A doorway that reads two inches wider than it is means a wheelchair that does not fit and work that has to be redone.
03What NoStep does not determine
It is not a medical device and provides no medical, clinical, or diagnostic advice. It does not infer a diagnosis or a person's abilities.
It makes no compliance determination. It does not certify conformance with the ADA, the Fair Housing Act, ICC A117.1, local building codes, or any funding programme's rules. Reference dimensions shown in the app are cited targets for the field to check against, not a finding about a particular home. Private single-family homes are generally not regulated by the ADA in any case.
It does not promise that any application will be approved, does not name brands, products, prices, or suppliers, and does not match or vet contractors.
Permits, code review, structural judgment, and the safety of completed work remain the responsibility of the professional, the contractor, and the local authority.
04Where your case data lives
Cases, photos, and scans are stored in your own browser on the device you used. Nothing is uploaded except the text of a case when you ask NoStep to draft packet wording, and photographs are stripped before that request leaves the browser. The camera image from a scan never leaves the device at all.
Because storage is local, clearing your browser data removes your cases, and Safari can evict local storage on its own after a stretch without visiting the site. Export a backup from the dashboard after any assessment you cannot afford to lose.
NoStep is not certified against HIPAA or any equivalent regime. Identify residents by initials, and redact faces, addresses, documents, and medication from photographs before adding them.
05Your responsibilities
Review every drafted section before it leaves your hands. Nothing in a NoStep document is final until you have signed the signoff block, and every section is editable precisely so that you can correct it.
Confirm any dimension that work or an order depends on. Use NoStep within your own licence, scope of practice, and professional indemnity cover.
06Limits of liability
NoStep is provided as is, without warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. To the extent the law allows, NoStep and its author are not liable for construction costs, rework, denied funding applications, injury, or other loss arising from reliance on its output.
This is a stated limit, not a transfer of professional responsibility: the professional who signs an assessment remains responsible for it.
